The Zyndo are nearly gnomish in their use and understanding of crystals to tap into the mystical energies of the Ether. It's even possible that the Zyndo made contact with early Gnomes and taught them how to tap into arcane energy and then harness it into and through crystal structures.
Legend has it that the Zyndo are actually descendants of a Gnomish city that was ripped from the world of Akkara and sent into the Ether.
