The North Marches
|Races||Human, Quenari, Halfling|
|Leadership||House of Norello|
The Marches is a region of Arland settled by Humans who originally founded the Kingdoms of the Kels. Primarily founded by settlers from Kel Mara, Kel Nord and Kel Arn, the North Marches have a rich history combining the frontier strength required to forge a new homeland in the face of continual goblin raids as well as the diplomacy needed to broker a future with the Shield Dwarves who have made the South Ridge of the Grandfather Mountain their home.
Settling the North Marches
Aside from the Kels themselves, the Marches (also known as the Marchlands) were settled as a series of independant marches who then formed into Baronies. These baronies eventually unified into the North and South marches which lie on either side of the March Sea. The Marches are larger in size than the first of the human kingdoms, The Kels and were able to eventually break away from their political influence. Kel Arn has remained neutral as the capital city of the Kels but Kel Nord and Kel Mara have been long-time supporters of the Northern Baronies with Kel Essen and Kel Rho lending their support to the south.
|The North||The South|
The politics of the North Marches are complex. They are a tight weave of economic wealth, military power and marriage that binds each baron to the next in nearly three different ways.
It is difficult to separate the barons, politically, without realizing that their most common enemy, outside of the occasional problem with orcs or goblins, is that of the South Marches.All political power and much of the economic and military power is based upon the city of Kingsport.
