Geography[]
The lands of the Kess is located within the Hinterlands and is strewn with steep, forest-covered hills.
Kess is a region of small hamlets, villages and only one true town; Kessa. The people of Kess are a rugged, sturdy bunch that prefer the simple life of the forest than the complications of urban life. Most of the Kessian people are accomplished hunters utilizing a composite shortbow and a curved “Kala” blade to provide food and defense from the goblin-infested Briarwood to the south.
Kessians follow the teachings of Eldrathyl, the Beast Lord, respecting the balance in nature. Generally of caucasion stock, Kessians are between five and five and six feet tall with a meaty frame. Both men and women wear their hair long and with many decorative braids. Only after the death of their spouse will they cut their braids as a sign of morning; remaining single until they re-grow. Kessian men have adopted the wearing of long woolen kilts with a wide front-pouch at their waist. Kessians speak a dialect of Arness called Kessian. It is identified by the harsh rolling ‘r’ sounds but is generally understandable by those who speak Arness.
